Synopsis

Permitting regulations require an assessment of existing resources prior to any construction activities that might have the potential to impact those resources. Northwater performed a baseline condition stream assessment to support permitting and characterize aquatic resources. The project was completed on time despite challenging conditions.

Project Description

Northwater performed a baseline condition stream assessment to support permitting for a coal mine in west-central Illinois. The baseline stream assessment and survey encompassed water quality analysis for various parameters, fish sampling and identification, macro-invertebrate sampling and identification, and physical habitat characterization.

The project also included facilitation with the regulatory agency (IEPA), development of a Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) and detailed reporting. It was completed within a critical timeframe despite several storms that delayed the progress of the stream sampling; it was completed on time and within budget.
