Northwater was retained to evaluate and support water supply systems and an overall water infrastructure program in the Rulindo District of Rwanda. The Rulindo Challenge is an ambitious program being led by Water for People and the Rwandan government. The goal is to provide all 494 communities, 100 schools and 24 health clinics in the Rulindo District with access to safe drinking water by 2017.
The evaluation included a field assessment of several rural water supply systems that have been recently constructed or are in the process of being constructed. The evaluation included review of engineering designs, construction quality, system functionality, the effectiveness of a private water system operator model and the overall satisfaction of the beneficiaries that include communities, schools and health clinics.
