Synopsis

The Nine Lakes watershed in Northern Illinois is 19,000 acres in size that includes regionally significant lakes impacted by urban development pollution-induced runoff, specifically chloride and nutrients. Northwater developed a custom, spatially explicit, map-based water quality model to address components of a watershed plan focused on improving lake water quality.

Lead consultant to assist CMAP in finalizing a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) plan for a 19,000-acre watershed that includes nine regionally significant lakes. Northwater developed a custom model to calculate non-point source pollution loading, identify effective project locations and estimate associated water quality benefits.

The model estimated parcel level pollutant loading of nitrogen, phosphorus, sediment, chloride, and fecal coliform bacteria and provided a platform to develop an implementation plan to achieve the water quality improvement requirements of the TMDL.
